PPP Revisited

Posted on February 22nd, 2007 in Computer software/hardware, The Never Ending Story/Other FLB Events | No Comments »

The code for the Review this post is put in, and hopefully works in the next tic of the blog cache. Now, as I logged into PPP today, i realized that i was not looking at 2 digit payperpost opportunities…some were 3….even 4 digit amounts. Theres one post thats going at 1000 USD for a documentary. Sadly, FLB is not able to participate in that one, since we don’t have enough pagerank and too high an alexa. The new system at PPP splits blogs by their popular categories. While this is slightly hurting the low ranked blogs, it attracts more advertisers. On another aspect, PPP charges 35% commission instead of the 100% at ReviewMe. Thats always good :)
Hope some of you who read this blog who have your own will try PPP using the review this post function on flashladybug. I mean, why not? You get to write your response to our posts with your own opinions, get paid for them, and help maintain flashladybug! Everyone’s happy. Now…onto looking for a way to get into those good opportunities. One downside about the segmentation is that many of the high end/very interesting advertisers are marking up to the high traffic blogs. Some, however, have trickled down to lower PR and alexa ranked blogs. So even if you are a low traffic blogger, theres bound to be some opportunities available. Webhosting isnt that expensive either. With just one post a month at the average payout from PPP, you can break even with webhosting…I find that impressive and very very helpful. Cheers! Join us at the blog ad network.
And since disclosure is required for all bloggers…

Misc Maintenance Post

Posted on February 22nd, 2007 in The Never Ending Story/Other FLB Events | No Comments »

So, I’m sitting here, and I think, what better time than to do some code maintenance on Flashladybug. If anyone has any theme suggestions, email em to me: blin100 AT gmail DOT com

I’ll do some speed optimizations, clean up some unused stuff, and add a few functions I promised before. :-D

PayPerPost: Review My Post

Posted on February 16th, 2007 in Computer software/hardware, Hands On/Build This!, PSA-Types, Tech News, The Never Ending Story/Other FLB Events | No Comments »

Review My Post is an interesting program provided by PayPerPost. If a blogger goes to your blog, reads a post, and blogs about in their own blog via the “Review My Post,” that blogger gets some money for the post as well as you. Its an interesting concept thats simply an evolved form of referrals, but its probably very effective. This is definitely a good opportunity for bloggers to build traffic and offset their costs. We’ll give it a shot.
Heres how it goes:
Flashladybug has its PayPerPost account.
We post anything. Lets just say….quantum computers and their influence on cheese production
You…a blogger, have read abovementioned post and have decided that its totally wrong. that its totally right, that we’re all on drugs.
You click on the “Review my post” button that will be located under each post.
You sign in/create a PayPerPost account.
You write your post and finish the assignment.
Once it has been verified, Flashladybug gets money, you get money
We all get money
We’re happy.
See, its simple, easy, and ya know what? it supports both you and us!
We shall implement this feature soon, probably tomorrow. For now, you can check out the specifics at the PPP site and generate traffic.

Oh, and just for your knowledge:

All posts that are paid for via PayPerPost on this blog shall have that nice blue bar indicating that we have received monetary compensation. However, please note that very few opportunities exist where the tone of the post is either positive or negative. Its usually neutral. Also, if we do not agree with the post’s required tone, I wont do it. All the ideas and reviews shall be from the poster and not affected by the payment. Thanks!

A note on content

Posted on December 31st, 2006 in The Never Ending Story/Other FLB Events | No Comments »

Writing a blog seems fundamentally easy. Find links, and post them, with a summary about what the link contains, and why a reader might want to click on it and read what it has to say. In reality, it’s not as easy as it sounds. What do we include? Will people be interested? Is it original (creating one-of-a-kind content can be hard to do)? Will people understand it?

That last one can sometimes be the most challenging. I know we’ve got readers out there will different levels of knowledge and interest about all things technological. Some people will be interested and understand everything, some won’t understand some of the posts. (I’ll admit that I’ve looked up some stuff before writing a blog entry about a link, either because I didn’t know it, or it helped me understand how to describe what I already knew.)

Because of this, I’m going to try and provide some basic summary information about some of the more complicated posts on the site, for people who want to be able to learn and read more about the subject or topic in the blog. (Look at the next post down, about the particle accelerator, with the basic translaton, and link to a site that makes understanding and learning more easer.)
Everyone should be happier the more they understand. I know I hate getting talked at with random tech I know nothing about. At least if I understand it, it’s a little better.

Synched Christmas Lights (Video)

An oldie but goodie post from the FLB Archive :

$10,000 tech project. Decorate a house. Sounds insane? How about a
decorated house thats synched with an Orchestra’s music? How about the
“Wizards In Winter” by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra? With a grand total
of 25,000 lights and 2 months, an electrical engineer creates the
Christmas house. It caused ONE Car ACCIDENT. Brilliant. Absolutely
Brilliant. Heres a

PSA : 40 things you didn’t know about sleep

Posted on November 30th, 2006 in Dumb Things That Happen, Labs/Experiments, PSA-Types, Science!, Site of the Day, The Never Ending Story/Other FLB Events | No Comments »

Okay, this is better than the last sleep-related post I made.  This lists some serious facts.

REM sleep occurs in bursts totalling about 2 hours a night, usually beginning
about 90 minutes after falling asleep  (Ed. note – REM is considered the deepest type of sleep)

REM dreams are characterised by bizarre plots, but non-REM dreams are repetitive
and thought-like, with little imagery – obsessively returning to a suspicion you
left your mobile phone somewhere, for example

The record for the longest period
without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes during a rocking chair marathon.
The record holder reported hallucinations, paranoia, blurred vision, slurred
speech and memory and concentration lapses

Most of what we know about sleep we’ve learned in the past 25 years

Experts say one of the most alluring sleep distractions is the 24-hour
accessibility of the internet

And that’s just a few.  Read more here (unless it’s keeping you from a nice medium temperature bed)

“Why it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie”

Posted on November 29th, 2006 in Dumb Things That Happen, Labs/Experiments, Lacking a Category, Science!, The Never Ending Story/Other FLB Events, Time Wasters | No Comments »

I found this neat article detailing some interesting “what ifs” for some common phrases….

For example, if the clouds had a silver lining, we’d eventually turn a bluish gray before we died of heart, kidney, and bone disease.  Silver is a heavy metal, and a toxin to humans.

If the pen was mightier than the sword, bloggers would be extremely rich.

A watched kettle of water would never boil, but continue to store energy in the water, until once left alone, the energy would be released very suddenly with great force.  The next weapon to end the world could be nothing other than an iron black hunk of metal with some water in it over an open fire.  Who knew?

I’ve summarized these greatly, I strongly reccomend reading the full article (it also mentions one or two other common phrases as well.)
