Flashladybug and PI(e)

After an audit by Mark, we have realized our post frequency is pie.

After some calculation, Marks brilliance has created the perfect
time at which point our blogs post frequency will be exactly equal to
pie. It is. TOday. It is. NOW. IT IS September 16, 2006
Rejoice! We approach the sacred limit of PIE!

Our blog has been made holy by the powers of pie!

Mark will post the actual audit with number of posts, etc. but…I mean, we are PI!

Google : “Celebrate Your Freedom to Read”

Posted on September 13th, 2006 in PSA-Types, The Never Ending Story/Other FLB Events, Time Wasters, Site of the Day | No Comments »

This is taken straight from the Google Books page.

“To Kill a Mockingbird. Of Mice and Men. The Great Gatsby. 1984.
It’s hard to imagine a world without these extraordinary literary
classics, but every year there are hundreds of attempts to remove great
books from libraries and schools. In fact, according to the American
Library Association, 42 of 100 books recognized by the Radcliffe
Publishing Course as the best novels of the 20th century have been challenged or banned.

Google Book Search
is our effort to expand the universe of books you can discover, and
this year we’re joining libraries and bookstores across the country to
celebrate the 25th anniversary of Banned Books Week – a nationwide
initiative to help people learn about and explore banned books. You can
start by browsing these 42 classics – books we couldn’t be more pleased
to highlight.”

I won’t get into the banned book list who’s, or why’s.  That’s a messy topic.
My closing comment for this post : Keep an open mind, and if you dislike a book, or favor a book, just do us all a favor and actually read the book before you complain about it or try and ban it.  If you’ve read it, and still dislike it, so be it.  We’ve all got our own opinions.

CERN and a Rant

Posted on September 13th, 2006 in PSA-Types, Science!, Time Wasters, Historic Technology, Tech News | No Comments »

Ok, I have to get this straight with everyone who reads flashladybug.
Now, yesterday, CERN’s new neutrino laser came “online.” It was officially commissioned into use.
This is a neutrino laser, mind you. Billions of neutrinos pass through the earth every day, and guess what, we dont feel it, see it, hear it, or anything else it.
Neutrinos have such little effect on matter that their one of the hardest types of particles to detect.
What do you think a neutrino laser would do? It’ll GO THROUGH YOU. Nothing…maybe one random molecular damage hit, 1 in a billion. There are people running around with signs and shrilly screaming that the world is going to end. With all due respect, if one of you is reading this blog right now, I would like to smack you. Hard.
First of all, what you people are frothing at the mouth about is the CERN lasers and particle accelerators creating either mini black holes or stranglets. Now, why in gods name would you protest against the neutrino laser? Its seriously not able to interact with ordinary matter much. Particle acclerators, sure, theres a minute chance that it could happen. Stranglets are theoretical objects, and high speed impacts could perhaps create quark matter. This is not strangelets. Black holes. Lets see, steven hawking first theorized about these things. Tiny black holes that have a fraction of the suns mass. Their properties are similar to normal black holes, only they vaporize in microseconds. Their size and matter within itself expells in its emissions. There wouldnt be any black hole.
Again, its absolutely nonsensical to protest the neutrino laser, and second of all what are they going to do about it?
Yes, the United States Government is going to ban all mini black holes or stranglets. All such objects are hereby illegal and will be considered contraband. Creation or transportation  of such objects will be punishable with a fine no less than 2 trillion dollars and lifetime prison sentence.

*Provided the world still exists
It just aint going to happen. Honestly, think about it. Then, email me if you still think this way. I’m bored. ;)

What IS pluto?

Posted on September 7th, 2006 in PSA-Types, Science!, Dumb Things That Happen | No Comments »

You know, sometimes, I think that the IAU are people who have nothing better to do, than to screw around with peoples minds. Don’t take me wrong, past things that the IAU have done are great for astronomers, and in general have helped make things constant. But, seriously, why won’t they make up their minds about PLUTO? Oh, sorry. Its not pluto anymore. Its now, Minor planet 134340.
First, its a planet ( :) ) then, its a dwarf planet (suure), now its a minor planet? I mean, will they just make up their minds? If they say that the planet is too small, etc, then declare it not a planet, and Let Go of It. I don’t care if your decision is politics based, logic based, or illogically based, just stop changing the name of the thing.
One thing to note, which i find amusing, two members of the CA assembly denounced it as “mean-spirited”, “hasty, ill-considered scientific heresy.” Sure, it does go against popular culture, but, ya know…if you issue a definitive statement about it, it WILL work. “Downgrading Pluto’s status will cause psychological harm” Who are these people talking about again?

Privacy Policy

Posted on August 26th, 2006 in PSA-Types, The Never Ending Story/Other FLB Events | No Comments »

Sometimes…I really wonder what exactly the purpose is of flashladybug. Today, it occured to me while I was doing paperwork. I guess its a way for me to escape that, and to do something more interesting. :P
So..on impulse, I hereby declare the Flashladybug Privacy Policy in action!
*Note: This privacy policy has almost no real use here, as the information we collect is not too much. But…why not? And plus, that gets me out of filling paperwork for like an hour.

Vain Attempt to Increase Traffic

Posted on August 25th, 2006 in PSA-Types, The Never Ending Story/Other FLB Events, How To's | No Comments »

Yes, I know…this is probably going to fizzle, but after a day of
frustrating forum boards and support emails, I have given up. Awaiting
answers to these questions such as, what the @($# has happened to the
flashladybug ads and their contextuality, I decided to go nuts, and
join this service to drive traffic to my site. I have absolutely no
faith in this, but…if it works, I’m not complaining. Here goes:

So, you need more traffic to your site? (snigger…) Well, you can use
something called viral promotion! People claim its what gives them
traffic, and since I think we have a solid loyal user base…we just
need to expand. right? So, help us, and in return, help yourselves by
joining freeviral. I can’t assure you much, but i do know you aren’t
getting spam from em. Join here
Thanks!

So…what IS a planet?! Theres 13?! No, its 8!..maybe…9..

Posted on August 24th, 2006 in PSA-Types, Science!, Dumb Things That Happen, Time Wasters | No Comments »

Why is it…that they just cant make up their minds? I doubt its such a hard problem, until you factor in politics and the usual random stuff. So for now…there are 8 planets. Yes…say bye to pluto, atleast for now. Until the next vote by the IAU. At which point most likely, pluto will be reinstated, and so will another 200  asteroids. Ah…those poor kids who have to memorize em… :P Read the article here

Fake Tech

Sometimes, fake tech is like….fake brand name shoes or purses…they look the same, act the same, but their just not totally the same…
In this case, this fake tech doesnt look the same, doesnt act the same, and their totally…not the same. This takes fake tech to a whole new level…..
This has got to be one of the most hilarious/scary act of fakeness i have seen. :P
Lets see, I walk into a store, i see a usb wireless adapter for, oh …20 bucks. I buy it. Plug it in, doesnt work..hmm. OPen it up…hey, look! its just a usb cable cut in half! wow!
