Yes, it’s time for a “random post” post.

Caffinated Donuts

How about a Buzz Donut or a Buzzed Bagel? That’s
what Doctor Robert Bohannon, a Durham, North Carolina, molecular
scientist, has come up with. Bohannon says he’s developed a way to add
caffeine to baked goods, without the bitter taste of caffeine”

How To Disinfect a Sponge in a Microwave

A team at the University of Florida found that two minutes
in the microwave at full power could kill a range of bacteria,
viruses and parasites on kitchen sponges.”

1.  WET SPONGE.
2.  Microwave on HIGH for 2 minutes.

Very usefull information.  However, too many people forgot to wet the sponge.  A dry sponge is combustable, and burns quite easily.  Especially when placed inside a microwave for 2 minutes, when it’s bone dry.  So, remember.  WET the SPONGE!

Overturned Truck Spills Bottled Water and Soup on highway 401 in below freezing temperatures.

I’d hope by now everyone has figured out where this post is going.  Soup, bottled water, and cooking oil were all spilled over the highway, and then froze to the lanes of traffic.  There was one minor injury in the truck crash, and one bus got a flat tire from striking a bottle of water in another lane, although there were no injuries to any passengers.  Sand and salt was distributed to clean the mess.

(Personally, I’d have light the cooking oil on fire to boil off the water, then enjoyed the nice hot steaming soup.  Roadkill stew anyone?)

The Procrastination Formula.

Posted on January 26th, 2007 in PSA-Types, Science!, Dumb Things That Happen, Time Wasters | No Comments »

A psychologist, Piers Steel of the University of Calgary has created the equation for procrastinators.

U=E*V/I*D
Where, U=desire to complete task
E=expectation of success
V=value of completion
I=immediacy of task
D=personal sensitivity to delay

Wonderful…. :P Thanks for the nugget of genius ;)

PSA : 40 things you didn’t know about sleep

Posted on November 30th, 2006 in Science!, PSA-Types, The Never Ending Story/Other FLB Events, Labs/Experiments, Dumb Things That Happen, Site of the Day | No Comments »

Okay, this is better than the last sleep-related post I made.  This lists some serious facts.

REM sleep occurs in bursts totalling about 2 hours a night, usually beginning
about 90 minutes after falling asleep  (Ed. note - REM is considered the deepest type of sleep)

REM dreams are characterised by bizarre plots, but non-REM dreams are repetitive
and thought-like, with little imagery - obsessively returning to a suspicion you
left your mobile phone somewhere, for example

The record for the longest period
without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes during a rocking chair marathon.
The record holder reported hallucinations, paranoia, blurred vision, slurred
speech and memory and concentration lapses

Most of what we know about sleep we’ve learned in the past 25 years

Experts say one of the most alluring sleep distractions is the 24-hour
accessibility of the internet

And that’s just a few.  Read more here (unless it’s keeping you from a nice medium temperature bed)

Facts about the Dow, Nasdaq and S&P 500

Posted on October 19th, 2006 in PSA-Types, Lacking a Category | No Comments »

This is a basic overview of the differences between the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P 500.  I knew the basic histories of these three systems, but not the small details.  This article basically sums up in three paragraphs the differences of each market, and how exactly what the market measures differs.  This is a very basic overview, not all that technical by any means, but still some good base knowledge to have.

The United States Population will hit 300 million people within a few days~!

“The population of the United States will pass 300 million today, or
tomorrow. No one knows exactly where, no one know precisely when.”

It was in 1915 that the US population reached 100 million. Fifty-two years
later, in 1967, it reached 200 million. It has taken just 39 more years for
the milestone of 300 million to be achieved.”

According to a 2005 Wikkipedia article, the US is the third largest country by population, behind India in second place, and China in first place.  Read the wikkipedia article here

Posted on October 9th, 2006 in PSA-Types, Computer software/hardware, Tech News, Downloads | No Comments »

Perhaps. Tomorrow, we are going to get 11 patches from Microsoft. One is called a “High priority update” which apparently, their IE blog states hint hint is IE7. Tabbed browsing, RsS feeds, built in antiphishing. This will be interesting. I find it funny that this is all happening tomorrow. (or..shall i say, today. *clock reaches 12:00) Read it here. And lets see how much better IE7 is. Though, you can bet im still using FF. :P
