One Sharp Car

Posted on March 20th, 2007 in Photos/Videoes, Dumb Things That Happen, Picture of the Day, Time Wasters | 2 Comments »

Yea…anyone who has the time/resources to do this to a car should be classified as nuts. Luca Pancrazzi (crazy :P) took a Maserati Quattrporte and covered it with 800 kg of shattered glass. This is absolutely…nuts. LOOK at it:

Cool things to do with a Tesla Coil

Posted on March 11th, 2007 in Photos/Videoes, Picture of the Day, How To's, Site of the Day | No Comments »

Tesla coils are those electrical devices with loops of coil around a tube and a solid metal dome on top that spark when electrical current is fed into them.  You’ve probably seen one either in a movie, or the Museum of Science in Boston has a giant one they use to simulate lightning.

Here’s some video and photos of neat things to do with small, home-sized (**But still very dangerous**) tesla coils.

SUPER Zoom on Google Maps

Posted on March 7th, 2007 in Google, Photos/Videoes, Picture of the Day, Computer software/hardware, Tech News | 2 Comments »

Its actually possible, to zoom in super mode on google maps. Simply go to satellite view, zoom to the max. Click on the “link to this page” on the top right. Copy and paste this url into your address bar, and change the Z parameter to something higher. Amazingly, you can see very detailed things, such as camels, swimming pools, etc. Scary…wonder how many privacy laws this is breaking :P

Bacon Soap!/ Teddy/ Squirrel

Bacon+lye+mold=Bacon Soap! … Deliciously absurd.

also…

Takeo Igarashi is a professor at the University of Tokyo who has created a number of different little programs that demonstrate concepts he has come up with.
I discovered his homepage on my quest for free 3d modeling software. The program Teddy is best suited to making little rotund characters that can then be animated using the program Squirrel. The latter demonstrates the concept of spatial keyframing, a very novel and simple approach to 3d animation.

Projector Graffiti with a Laser (video)

.

Graffiti Research Labs has come up with a new high-powered toy.  They’ve combined a 60mw green laser with a camera and a high-powered projector.  The camera records the light that the building reflects from the laser, and then the projector projects the “lines” the camera saw in bright blue, right on the side of the building.

Snow Pictures

Posted on February 19th, 2007 in Photos/Videoes, Picture of the Day | No Comments »

Since most of us in the US have been dealing with SOME sort of freezing/snowy temperatures (I wouldn’t call what we got snow per se.  It was more like slush, with the consistancy of oatmeal, until it froze, and then became rock-solid.)

Well, I know how I fought the snow at home.  With a shovel.  And a vain attempt at using the snowthrower.  And another shovel.  Brian put a tarp down over his driveway after he shoveled to prevent it from snowing on it some more.  I’d say it might have trapped the sun, helping to bake his driveway dry a little bit too.

But how to railroads fight snow?
I know its a bit of a long list, but these are some of my favorites that I’ve seen in the past year or so.  Take a look.

Media Overload Post

To help my computer cope with having 90+ firefox tabs every time it boots, heres some really cool programs/pictures.

SmartSound
First off, anyone here use Adobe Premiere Pro or Premiere Elements? I know someone does….
Well, when you have a long audio but a short clip, you’d usually just truncate it, making it sound cut off at the end. No more! Quicktracks  by SmartSound has been made freeeeee. It will lengthen or shorten your audio to fit some length. I tried it with some music scores and it works quite well. Not sure about complex music with vocals though. Get it at SmartSound

Twingly Screensaver

Twingly takes blog activity and turns it to pricks on a US globe. Its a great screensaver if it didn’t use so much cpu/graphics, but…its understandable. Its a really cool screensaver, if only to turn on for a few seconds. Check it out: Twingly

Doodle

Yes, its doodling…but in 3d. Who can argue anything against that? Its supposed to use Flock of Birds as input, but hey, you can make do with a mouse. Sadly, without the special interface, you can’t draw extremely complex images, but its still quite cool. Gotta use flash. Doodle at Squidsoup

Cauliflower?!

cauliflowner never looked so uh…insanely intricate? I don’t think i’d be able to eat that thing…lol. I mean…look at it at Freedigitalphotos

Apple+Supersonic blast….

supersonic blast wins. And no, its not the computer brand. Just look at the crazy looking apple skin:

Thanks nebarnix

Photo : Elevator with passengers and no floor

Posted on February 18th, 2007 in Photos/Videoes, Picture of the Day | 1 Comment »

No, people can’t float.  No, they’re not about to fall down the elevator shaft.  The floor has been painted to depict the shaft beneath elevator, giving the impression that it’s got no floor.  The second photo in the set  a photo of a boat on such clear water that it looks like the boat is floating in mid-air.

Note: the pink color at the top was adjusted.
