The Theory of Everything 3.0

Posted on November 26th, 2007 in Historic Technology, Science!, Site of the Day, Tech News | 1 Comment »

A few days ago, an unlikely individual published a paper on the theory of everything. This guy isn’t a college professor or any typical “Einstein” like figure. And yet, he has struck upon a possible theory of everything based on a mathematical pattern. The Theory of Everything 1.0 Beta was essentially Einstein’s Space-Time continuum. TOE 2 was String Theory. It is still a widespread theory though still contested heatedly. And now, TOE3 arises from a mathematical pattern named E8. It is an intricate pattern of 248 points distributed over 8 dimensions.
To introduce the Theory of Everything…it is the holy grail of physics. It is the quest to find a mathethematical set of formulas that would unite the forces of Electromagnetism, strong force, weak force, and gravity. Standard Model as of now unites 3 out of these 4. It leaves gravity alone, as no one has been able to make gravity “work” with the others.
This individual, Garrett Lisi was studying the E8 pattern and realized that some equations about this structure resembled the equations governing particles. He was able to place particles on each of the points. Any blank points left are supposedly particles that we have not yet discovered, such as the elusive graviton. Using the family of patterns that E8 belongs to, he was able to fill the object. By rotating the pattern using a computer and projecting it into 2 dimensions, he could see different interactions between the particles. He could see gravity-electro-weak interactions between particles. So far, all the observations made using this pattern have fit real-world observations. This model uses nothing but simple math and of course…8 dimensional geometry. However, this appears at first glance to be much more elegant and simple than String Theory. We may be seeing the discovery of the Theory of Everything…or, simply a spectacularly wrong theory that is elegant nonetheless. Read the article on NewScientist

Installed Drivers

Posted on November 26th, 2007 in Computer software/hardware, Tech News | No Comments »

IntelliAdmin shows us a relatively unknown 2003,XP, Vista command line utility. If you go to command line in these 3 OS’s, and type driverquery, it will spit back at you a list of the drivers installed on your machine. It lists the kernal name, a short description, and the time/date it was installed.
Now, this is all nice and interesting, but, there are more options.
*Copied from IntelliAdmin:

Parameter List:
/S system Specifies the remote system to connect to.

/U [domain\]user Specifies the user context
under which the command should execute.

/P [password] Specify the Password for the given
user context. Prompts for input if omitted.

/FO format Specifies the type of output to display.
Valid values to be passed with the
switch are “TABLE”, “LIST”, “CSV”.

/NH Specifies that the “Column Header”
should not be displayed in the
screen output. Valid for “TABLE”
and “CSV” format only.

/V Displays detailed information. Not valid
for signed drivers.

/SI Provides information about signed drivers.

/? Displays this Help/Usage.

Nice and nifty. Thanks IntelliAdmin

I’m working up a huge Firefox Tab overload over here due to my habit of tab saving for this blog…just to get this off my shoulders.. ;)
Prism is a step in the ever-going Webapp->desktop app movement. It opens a website in a stripped down Firefox that has no tabs or url bar, loads quickly. This allows you to have essentially a shortcut to say, gmail, or Google Docs, or whatever your favorite online app is. Of course, this won’t help you if you have no internet, but sometimes this will keep distractions free, allow you to have instant access to your app quick and light.

Flashladybug has now officially undergone sabbatical and will be returning at a future date after all of its authors figure out what is going on with their lives. Our apologies for not further allowing you to waste time reading random technology or news articles.

Batch Uninstalls

Heres a nifty tool. You have windows Add/Remove program that, put politely, sucks. Here, youve got a program that you can auto queue programs to be uninstalled so you can select programs, press the uninstall button, and go take a break while it uninstalls 30 gigs worth of crap. Check it out at Glarysoft

Apologies for the downtime

Our apologies for the downtime….we had some um, issues with certain people and spam…
It got sooooo bad, that wordpress was using so many cycles that our host was shutting it down everytime it ran. We will be resuming posting soon, after I get my act together and find us a better theme :P

Yea…i dont know bout the 1.06 bit…but hey…its a google cheat sheet. Who needs more? And if its past 1.00, its all good ;)
Useful….and I do NOT think I need to explain more than that this little pdf will make lots of things you need to do with google so much easier. Of course…if you knew it already, itd be even easier.

You3b

A very odd, but interesting concept. You3b is made for people who don’t have the time to watch single youtube movies. I mean…you can’t expect people to watch ONE movie, when you could be watching 3 right? You3b will let you do that on the same screen. You just have to try this out….its definately for the ADD among us. (this is NOT a disparaging comment towards the ADD, because….well, i’m pretty easily distracted by a squirrel or a shiny object sooooo…..)

I present you….You3b

Gmail Storage Size Increase

Posted on August 14th, 2007 in Computer software/hardware, Google, Tech News | 1 Comment »

Every time i login to gmail, i look at my remaining storage, and think….omg….
I am currently at 93% usage….and lemme put it this way, i dont use gmail as online storage. Most of it….is email with text attachments o.O
While google’s deal this time is not the most um, attractive one that you can find online, atleast its an option.
From now on, you can buy extra storage space. Current rates are as follows:
6 GB ($20.00 per year)
25 GB ($75.00 per year)
100 GB ($250.00 per year)
250 GB ($500.00 per year)

Slightly pricey…so I’m holding off on this for now. However, at the launch of this service, it is rumored/with some evidence, that for 6 GB, the rate was $1. :(
Sadly…it is no longer.
You can view your current storage usage in your Account Panel
Which also has a link for upgrading storage.

Supersonic Skydiver (131,000 feet)

I gotta hand it to this guy.  He’s set an impressive goal.  I sorta think he’s nuts, but then again, its something no one has ever done before, and lets face it, he’s gonna fall pretty darn fast.  And if you can do it. . . .why not?

Click the link for the rest of the story and the graphic.  Too many images was slowing down FLB page loading time. . .

He will leap head-first from a weather balloon 25 miles above Earth
and plummet at more than 1,000mph with only a parachute for company.

He will face external temperatures of minus 100c while inside
his carbon-fibre suit it will be a stifling 65c – almost 150
fahrenheit.

And most amazing of all, Michel Fournier is actually looking forward to it.

The daredevil Frenchman, a greyhaired 63-year-old former
paratrooper, aims to become the first person to break the sound barrier
in free-fall.”

. . .

After leaping from the balloon, Fournier believes he will break the 760mph sound barrier within 37 seconds.

The lack of friction due to the thinness of the air will mean he can
attain a much higher terminal velocity, and his team of scientists
estimate he will reach the top speed of 1,113mph before he is slowed
down by greater air resistance.

His parachute will not open until six minutes, 25 seconds
after jumping and he will finally reach the Earth after around eight
and a half minutes.”
