Giveaway of the Day FlashSpring Pro

Posted on December 8th, 2006 in Software/Hardware Reviews, Computer software/hardware, Tech News, Downloads | No Comments »

We posted about this a while ago, and here is a useful program thats been covered by Giveaway of the Day. FlashSpring Pro will take powerpoints and convert them into flash movies with animations and audio. It reduces the file of your ppt file to a more manageable one, and its more portable.

Might not be useful for some…but i know this will cut down on downtime when you need to present a powerpoint, and the computer doesnt like it. :)

Free Copy of XP for Developers

Posted on December 7th, 2006 in Computer software/hardware, Tech News, Downloads | No Comments »

Yes…its technically for developers….hint hint…nudge nudge…

Microsoft has been quite nice in their release of IE7 so that for developers can work on IE6 and IE7.
You normally can’t do that, there are too many alterations to try to dual install. But, microsoft made a VPC Virtual machine img that has both of them installed. Its XP. Its virtual machine, so you can run it as if it were your OS. To make this actually work for the company, its time bombed, so the OS dies on April 1st, 2007. Then again…thats a pretty long time. If i could, i would format my computer every 6 months…so, its not that bad :)

Magnets using H-bonding

Posted on December 7th, 2006 in Science! | No Comments »

Scientists made a magnet from hydrogen bonds. This magnet is stable up to 200 celsius, due to it being the biflouride ion. Its two flourine atoms bonded with a hydrogen atom, resulting in the magnet. Its interesting…totally useless in ordinary life…but, read it here!

12 Web Design Don’ts

Posted on December 6th, 2006 in How To's, Software/Hardware Reviews, Tech News, Site of the Day | No Comments »

Here is yet again another article about good and bad web design.  I think the best summary I could possible give is that be carefull how you design your website.  Make it clear and to the point, don’t overuse graphics, flash, or css if it doesn’t improve the way your website works.  Most visitors to your website will care what it does, and that it’s easy for them to do what they want, not what you want to show them.  (THis isn’t as much of a prolem for us, althought we face too many posts causing clutter.)

The first post!
Youtube video of what’s claimed to be the worlds smallest twin engine airplane - not a model, one with a real pilot.  And no, he’s not a midget, although he does look to be of thin(er) build than the rest of us.

Cri-cri From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cri-cri
(after the French word for cricket) is a very light twin-engined
kitplane, recognized as the smallest twin-engined aircraft in the world.

Designed
in the early 1970s by a French aeronautical engineer Michel Colomban,
the Cri-cri aircraft is the world’s smallest twin-engine aircraft. At
only 16′ wingspan and 12′10″ length, it is a single-seater.”

The Second Post

It’s a gun, it’s a knife, its a knife-gun????
Yep.  It’s a knife with a concealed gun inside.  Really.  With youtube vid included.  This thing doesn’t look all that stable to me.

Now if this was a cell phone knife gun, you could poke your eye out with the knife while talking on the phone, and then proceed to shoot yourself in the foot while trying to dial 911 with one eye……

The Third Post

The Milkshake macine!
Ever wanted to have the perfect milkshake, each and every time?  Build this, and you’re good to go.  Or you could just practice 5-10 times and get good enough to do it by sight, w/o measureing or recipie, like you grandmother used to make spaghetti sauce.  Either way.

Yes, there’s a video included.

Now, remember when there were these videos on youtube of “Can you Blend it?!. YES YOU CAN!”  ?
Well…now, its, CAN YOU FRY IT! in a microwave. Some are very impressive…some are just meh. Then again, putting things in a microwave often isnt the best thing to do. Its fun anyways. :P

An oldie but goodie post from the FLB Archive :

$10,000 tech project. Decorate a house. Sounds insane? How about a
decorated house thats synched with an Orchestra’s music? How about the
“Wizards In Winter” by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra? With a grand total
of 25,000 lights and 2 months, an electrical engineer creates the
Christmas house. It caused ONE Car ACCIDENT. Brilliant. Absolutely
Brilliant. Heres a

Golf Ball Breaks Gumball Machine (Hi-speed video)

Posted on December 5th, 2006 in Photos/Videoes, Science!, Labs/Experiments, Picture of the Day, Time Wasters | No Comments »

I’ve seen many home-made versions of these.  Now, a little high-impact footage from our friends at Nike.  Nike?  Yep, they’ve come out with new golf balls, and this is the promotion for em.  No matter how far they may or may not increase the distance of my drive, the vids are cool.  I’d reccoment the lava lamp, gumball machine, and ice sculpture.  The bunny and cake are good, forget the mayonase, and the jello ranks in the middle.

Notepad2

Posted on December 5th, 2006 in Computer software/hardware, Tech News, Downloads | No Comments »

Yes…sorry all those notepad followers out there. I have been converted. From now on, instead of having notepad sit at the top of my Most Used list, it shall be notepad2.
Why?

It is very small, and has a few nifty little perks that just makes things SO much easier.
Its a self contained coder, that highlights syntax for most of the large coding languages, along with ini, reg, inf, bat, and diff.
You can do search and replace, rectangular selection using alt+mouse (That one is really useful)
Brace matching: YAY!
Auto indenting, zoom, and an overall very adjustable tool. Its as light as the old notepad, and whats really nice…is being able to ctrl+n, and get a new window. :)
