Cow! With a hole in its stomach…

Posted on December 14th, 2006 in Science!, Dumb Things That Happen, Time Wasters | 1 Comment »

Yes….this is kind of odd. Disturbing too…
Its a cow who has a surgically created hole in its side into its stomach. You take out the plug, and you see green mush moving around in it. Very…odd…watch it here

AIM Light

Posted on December 14th, 2006 in Lacking a Category | No Comments »

Usually when we blog about software, it’s because of features that its got.  This time, I’m blogging about the feature it HASN’T got.  Yes, “features” that AIM Light doesn’t have.  Features like those annoying music ads, the AIM today page nobody read, sounds, expressions, popups, or ads.

It’s just a very simple AIM window where you can chat, with drag- and -drop file sharing.  Sounds pretty good.  I’ll have to try it sometime.  Looks like an interesting start.  Some addons might be availible to add sounds and buddy alerts.

AMD will may 45nm chips and smaller

Posted on December 14th, 2006 in Computer software/hardware, Tech News | No Comments »

AMD will soon begin producing 45-nanometer chips.  45nm is a small chip, and the smaller the chip, the relatively larger a speck of dust becomes.  As chips become smaller, dust can make more of them contaminated and unusable.  At the same time, you need greater efficiency in chip production.  Read more about it here.

Cuba has fewest cell phones per person of any Northern Hemisphere country

Some blame our government.  Some blame the Cuban government for trying to limit cell phones, which practically scream independance, mobility, and freedom to call whoever you want.  Rates for Cuban cell phones, availible for some business owners, are as high as 50 cents per minute.

old flash drives/ ultimate dictionary

Posted on December 12th, 2006 in Site of the Day | No Comments »

You can donate old, low capacity thumb drives to a nonprofit organization called Inveneo for use in African school labs. These will go to developing countries like Uganda, Rwanda, and Mali. Find out more.

Onelook.com is the only dictionary site you’ll ever need because its all of them rolled into one. Instead of hunting across different sites for the definition you’re looking for (like me) find all possible results through one site. Includes Encarta, Oxford, M-W, Wiktionary and many more. The site also includes a reverse dictionary allowing you to look up words you cant remember based on description. Awesome.

Is your cell phone bugged?

Posted on December 12th, 2006 in Dumb Things That Happen, Labs/Experiments, Time Wasters, How To's, Computer software/hardware, Tech News | 1 Comment »

BEFORE anyone reads this, tries it, and gets all nervous over this, MOST PEOPLE DO NOT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT A BUGGED CELL PHONE.

Okay, now that the boldface is out of the way…..
How to tell if your cell phone is bugged.
I would not reccomend this as a definitive test at all, merely one of those “what-if’s.”

If those of you (spies, diplomats, etc.) who actually worry about this stuff are reading this here, boy have you come to the wrong source, although we do offer a fully functional (and random) tech blog.

Wheels of Plastic

Another new automotive toy, the clear plastic wheel.  Show off those high-end brakes, rotors, and all the dust and scratches you can pick up from a New England road in winter!

Okay, really, this looks like an interesting idea in theory.  A clear plastic wheel.  We’ve seen wheels that spin, even wheels with spokes that bend and flex over bumps (search for “tweel” on the blog for that particular post.)  Now we’ve got wheels that you can see through.  Only $2,000 per wheel, available for 4 and 2 wheeled vehicles.

Photos included in the link.

Adobe Reader SpeedUp

Posted on December 11th, 2006 in Computer software/hardware, Tech News, Downloads | 5 Comments »

This is quite useful, especially on systems that load realllllly slowly, or have tons of stuff installed. Acrobat Reader Speedup will tweak the loading time to be much faster. It changes a bit of stuff in the backend, and disables plugins that you definately arent using. Get it here
